Land Clearing by Hook & Ladder Tree Service

Land clearing from lot to acreage

Homesites, building pads, driveway paths, fence lines and overgrown acreage — we remove what has to go, mulch what’s left, and leave ground you can actually use.

Land clearing

Raw land in. Usable ground out.

Whether you’re building a house, opening up a back pasture or getting family land ready to use, land clearing is usually more than one job. We put them together.

A typical clearing project combines tree removal for the large trees in the way, forestry mulching for the brush and small trees, and stump grinding where a slab, driveway or septic system is going in. Because it’s one crew doing all of it, you get one schedule and one price.

Clearing with the end in mind

Before we quote, we ask what the land is for. A homesite needs the pad, the driveway path and the drain field open — but you may want a wall of trees left along the road for privacy. A hunting tract needs lanes and plots, not a parking lot. We clear to the plan, not just “everything.”

Wetlands, drainage and permits

A lot of land on the Northshore is low, and some of it is jurisdictional wetland. Clearing in those areas can require permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the parish or your city. We’re not your permit office, but we walk every site first, point out anything that looks like it needs review, and won’t clear an area you haven’t confirmed is okay to clear.

Selective clearing

Keep the trees that make it worth living there.

The best wooded homesites keep their best trees. We flag the healthy oaks and pines you want to save, protect them during the work, and clear the rest — so you end up with an open, shaded lot instead of a bare one.

How it works

A clearing plan, not a guess.

  1. Tell us the goal

House, shop, pasture, hunting land or just “open it up.” Send the address and any survey or site plan you have.

  2. Site walk

We walk boundaries, flag keeper trees, check access, utilities and low areas, and talk through what happens to the wood.

  3. Written quote

A job price that spells out removals, mulching, stump work and cleanup — so you know what you’re getting.

  4. Clear & walk-through

We do the work, then walk the finished site with you before the equipment leaves.

Cost factors

What drives the price of land clearing?

  • Size of the area and how it’s laid out.
  • Number and size of large trees that need to come down.
  • How thick the brush is and how long it’s been growing.
  • Stumps — ground near grade vs. removed for construction.
  • What happens to the wood — mulched, stacked, or hauled off.
  • Ground and access — wet areas, ditches, gates and culverts.

We price clearing by the job after a site walk, so you get a real number instead of an hourly estimate.

Land Clearing FAQ

Questions, answered.

How much does land clearing cost on the Northshore?

It depends on acreage, tree size, brush density, stump work, ground conditions and whether wood is mulched or hauled. We price each job after a free site walk.

What’s the difference between land clearing and forestry mulching?

Forestry mulching is one method of land clearing — great for brush and small trees. Full land clearing can also include large tree removal, stump grinding and debris removal to get a site ready for construction.

Do you clear lots for new home construction?

Yes. We clear house pads, driveway paths and septic areas, remove trees and stumps where the plan requires it and leave the rest of the lot as wooded as you want.

Do I need a permit to clear my land?

It depends on your location and the land. Some cities require tree removal permits, and wetland areas may require federal or parish permits. We’ll flag anything we see, but it’s the owner’s responsibility to confirm permits before clearing.

Can you leave some trees standing?

Absolutely. Selective clearing is one of the most common requests we get. We flag keeper trees with you before we start.

Do you do dirt work or driveways?

We’ve helped customers with gravel driveway refreshes, parking pads and lanes as part of clearing jobs. Ask about your project and we’ll tell you what we can handle directly.
